Recent Events
- The Practical Letters of Credit Training Program for the Jordan Commercial Bank staff commenced on the 11th of
March 2007. The course was held in an exciting environment at the bank's training center. The trainees enthusiastically
participated in analysing real life case studies. The team rated the course as an outstanding event acknowledging that
they have gained invaluable technical knowledge which will help them to soundly apply the intricate articles of the
UCP600 in their day to day operations. The course successfully ended on the 19th of March 07.
- Held on the 6th and 7th of February 2007 at the Jumairah Beach Hotel in Dubai, The Middle East Trade and Export
Finance Forum provided an important opportunity for participants not only to gain some invaluable insights into the
various domains of trade finance, but also to meet with other professionals in compatible fields. The spectacular event
was sponsored by some of the world's leading corporates. The Chairman of the forum, Mr. Len Casley, the Senior
Country Officer of the J.P. Morgan Chase has outstandingly led the event to success. Together with Mr. Vincent
O'brien a top UCP600 expert and Mr. R. Kumar, Yacoub E. Sifri presented a comprehensive paper on risk
management in letters of credit operations and methods for augmenting the new provisions in trade finance banking
departments.
Top class lawyer Mr. Robert Parson of the Clyde & Co. brilliantly presented a paper on the UCP600 major changes.
Mr. Christopher Lewis the senior Regional Manager of the HSBC and many leading regional professionals from all over
the ME attended as well, some of these names were Mr. Lakshmanan Sankaran from the Commercial Bank of Dubai,
Mr. Mohammed Aslam Aseem from the Emirates Bank Group, Mr. Abdel Hamid Bhatti from the AhliBank Qatar, Mr. V S
Suresh, Mr. Rohit Komar from the National Bank of Abu Dhabi.
Dr. Ibrahim Saidi, an economist and researcher, has contributed an important paper on the economies of the region
and roles of both USA and Europe in spearheading the growth plans of the Arabian Gulf.

- "UCP 600; The Rules and Practice " is a new book in Arabic authored by Yacoub E. Sifri. The book will be available for
professionals and academics maximum by the 20th of this February 2007.
- On 26JAN2006, The Housing Bank for Trade and Finance team concluded the Practical LCs Training Program. The
trainees participated in enthusiasm and sincere willingness to apply themselves in the vigorous learning process of this
program; A matter that led to the distinctive success of the training. Participants received a Certificate of Attestation
from JSCS in acknowledgment of the complex technical skills they acquired during the course.

- The Trade Finance Team of "Jordan National Bank" in Amman has attended the Practical Trade Finance Course on
16SEP2004.
- The "Trading Center Team" of the "Housing Bank for Trade and Finance" has attended the "Practical Trade Finance
Course" on March2005.
